The meeting focused on the latest steps in implementing Security Council Resolution 2697 and the handover of evidence of ISIS crimes to the KRG.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – On Thursday, Dr. Dindar Zebari, the Kurdistan Region’s Coordinator of International Advocacy, received Stephen Mathias, Deputy Legal Counsel of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs, and Ana Peyró Llopis, Acting Special Adviser and Head of the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).
The meeting focused on the latest steps in implementing Security Council Resolution 2697 and the handover of evidence of ISIS crimes to the KRG.
Dr. Zebari stated, “In coordination with the UNITAD team and the National Committee for Coordination with UNITAD (NCC), documents and research archived by UNITAD will be submitted to the KRG through our international recommendations coordinator today.”
The transferred documents include information and materials received by UNITAD from judicial and non-judicial authorities within the KRG. These were compiled with the help of investigators, legal experts, forensic experts, and analysts. The total size of the data is 45.95 gigabytes, protected on an encrypted hard drive.
Dr. Zebari explained that UNITAD used SyncBackPro v.9 to copy this information into an Electronic Vault on hard drives after thorough verification. The evidence includes:
- One encrypted hard drive with a storage capacity of four terabytes.
- One printed BitLocker recovery key for the encrypted hard drive.
- Comprehensive help pages detailing the data structure, contents, and specific evidence details on each hard drive.
Regarding future steps with UNITAD, Dr. Zebari mentioned, “A training session is scheduled for mid-August next year for over 10 officers from relevant KRG parties on the Witness Protection Program.”
