Iraqi FM announces successful diplomatic meetings at NATO summit

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a significant development during the NATO summit in the US, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Friday that a series of high-level meetings had been successfully conducted. Addressing the press, Hussein detailed discussions with foreign ministers from various countries, U.S. officials, and representatives from the U.S. Treasury.
Hussein highlighted that the meetings focused on strengthening Iraq’s bilateral relations and addressing pressing global issues, with a particular emphasis on the situation in Gaza. He described the talks as "positive" and instrumental in enhancing diplomatic ties.
One notable discussion was held with a U.S. Treasury Department representative, where critical topics related to the Iraqi economy and monetary policy were addressed. Hussein confirmed that they also tackled the inclusion of Iraqi banks on the U.S. sanctions list, noting that significant steps are being taken to resolve these concerns.
"We held a meeting at the ministerial level with NATO countries to discuss military matters," Hussein stated. He mentioned that NATO’s military envoy in Baghdad is collaborating with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense on training and advisory roles. Additionally, a high-level Iraqi military delegation is set to visit Washington to further these military discussions.
Furthermore, Hussein commented on the recent visit of Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), to Baghdad. He emphasized the visit’s importance and its positive impact on Iraq's internal situation, noting Barzani's influential role in the Iraqi political landscape. The visit was seen as a crucial step in strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi government.
