ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani chaired a pivotal meeting between the Iraqi Economic Council and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Economic Council in Erbil on Sunday. The discussions, which included high-level officials from both sides, aim to address key economic and political issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.
Among those attending were Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein, who also serves as Chairman of the Iraqi Council of Ministers for Economy, and Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani. Several ministers and government officials from both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq were also present.
Prime Minister Barzani opened the meeting by welcoming the federal delegation and stressing the importance of collaboration in resolving longstanding disputes. He emphasized that a mutual desire to resolve issues, along with adherence to the Iraqi constitution and previous agreements, should serve as the basis for future discussions.
"The federal government must treat all regions and provinces fairly," Barzani stated, highlighting the need for equal consideration of citizens' rights across Iraq, from Basra to Baghdad, and the Kurdistan Region. He reiterated that the Kurdistan Region, as a constitutionally recognized federal entity, should be treated accordingly in all dealings.
Both Deputy Prime Minister Hussein and Chairman Talabani echoed the importance of resolving outstanding issues based on the constitution. "The purpose of this high-level delegation’s visit is to address these matters," they affirmed.
The meeting unfolded in a positive atmosphere, with both sides committed to finding solutions within the framework of the constitution. The discussions are set to continue for the next two days.
