ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Biryar Sabir, a university graduate and entrepreneurial farmer in Raparin's independent administration, is reaping the rewards of his diversified pomegranate orchard.

Sabir's strategic approach to farming, coupled with the government's support for agricultural exports, has yielded a fruitful harvest, both literally and figuratively.

"No one gets rich with a salary alone," Sabir stated, explaining his decision to venture into freelance farming. His orchard boasts several pomegranate varieties, each ripening at different times to ensure a steady stream of income.

"Our garden pomegranates are ripe now, and we've already started selling them at a good profit," he added.

Sabir's approach reflects a keen understanding of market dynamics. "In economics, there's a saying: 'Don't put all your eggs in one basket.' That's why we've planted four different types of pomegranates," he elaborated.

This diversification strategy safeguards against potential losses and guarantees a continuous supply of produce.

Despite his university degree, Sabir chose to dedicate himself to agriculture and horticulture. He believes that true progress lies beyond the confines of traditional employment.

"If you want to advance, you can't rely solely on a monthly salary. You need to enter the market, learn from your mistakes, and then you'll succeed," he advised. "Besides earning a decent profit, you gain freedom and the opportunity to innovate."

The agricultural sector in the Kurdistan Region is experiencing a resurgence, thanks in part to the government's efforts to promote and export local produce.

"The best thing for any business is to find a market," Sabir observed. "In recent years, we've seen Kurdish potatoes, pomegranates, and other products being exported abroad. This is a great motivator for farmers to revitalize our agricultural production."

Pomegranates, in particular, have gained popularity among farmers in the region. With the Kurdistan Regional Government actively seeking export opportunities, farmers like Sabir are optimistic about the future of agriculture in Kurdistan.
