ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is set to reopen its Organizational Bureau headquarters in Kirkuk and its regional headquarters in Khurmatu, marking a significant political development since the events of October 16, 2017.

Mahdi Kakeyi, spokesperson of the Kirkuk Organizational Bureau of the KDP, confirmed the plans to Kurdistan24 on Saturday.

He noted that the party is currently searching for a suitable building in Kirkuk, and the official opening date will be determined by President Masoud Barzani once the necessary arrangements are finalized.

This move comes after the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Central Committee's decision on October 26, 2023, to donate its former headquarters in Kirkuk to Kirkuk University.

This gesture was made "to preserve the spirit of unity and stability in the city" and to support education and cultural development.

Kakeyi also announced that the KDP will open its regional headquarters in the Khurmatu district for the first time since the events of October 16, 2017.

Following the events of October 16, 2017, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) headquarters in Kirkuk were occupied by Hashd al-Shaabi and other Iraqi forces, effectively halting their political activities in the city.

The reopening of the KDP headquarters signals a potential shift in the political landscape of Kirkuk and surrounding areas. This development could lead to increased political engagement and representation for the Kurdish population in the region.
