ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Sarbast Lezgin, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo and head of Dohuk's KDP Organizational office, reaffirmed on Sunday that the KDP has never utilized Islam as a tool to advance its political agenda.

Lezgin made this statement during his participation in a celebration marking the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad in Duhok.

"We hope that the Prophet Muhammad's birthday will foster coexistence and unity among all religious communities," Lezgin said, emphasizing the significance of the event for the region's diverse population.

Reflecting on the impact of Islam, Lezgin remarked that the arrival of the holy message of Islam was a pivotal moment in the history of humanity. "God chose Muhammad as His messenger to convey this message. Islam has since prevailed, and today, over one and a half billion people around the world follow this faith."

Lezgin concluded by reiterating the KDP's respect for Islam and the party’s alignment with Kurdish values, noting that "the Kurdish people take greater pride in the holy religion of Islam than any other nation."

The celebration in Duhok was attended by numerous religious and political figures, highlighting the ongoing importance of interfaith harmony in the region.
