ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Ministry of Health of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has reported 28 cases of cholera in the Kurdistan Region so far this year, with no fatalities. Sarkar Surchi, the ministry's spokesperson, made the announcement to Kurdistan24 on Sunday, highlighting that recent days have seen no new cases in Duhok province. Of the registered cases, 12 were recorded in Erbil and 16 in Sulaimani.
Cholera, a life-threatening diarrheal disease caused by bacteria found in contaminated food and water, tends to spike during the summer months. Surchi urged citizens to follow health guidelines to prevent its spread.

The ministry has advised the public to avoid dining out when possible and to ensure food safety when eating in restaurants. Citizens are also urged to verify that establishments have health licenses to ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
Regarding agriculture, Surchi emphasized the importance of using clean water for irrigation, stating that the use of water from unknown sources is prohibited. “This directive from the Ministry of Health has been implemented successfully, and people are adhering to it,” he added.
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely, with ongoing efforts to prevent further spread of the disease.
