Iraqi Ministry of Defense singed off agreement with South Korean Air Defense Systems
As understood from the South Korean sources the Cheongung-II system which forms the foundation for South Korea's missile defense strategy, designed, particularly to protect against North Korean threats.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Cheongung-II Air Defense Systems by LIG Nex1 company, from South Korea, signed off an agreement of 2 billion and 78 million dollars with Iraq, on Friday.
Such air missile defense is a strategic system in the South Korea, its operation consists of four mobile launch missiles, eight missile launch tubes, and a control-carrying radar.
As understood from the South Korean sources the Cheongung-II system which forms the foundation for South Korea's missile defense strategy, designed, particularly to protect against North Korean threats.
It was confirmed by the company, Iraq became the third country in the Middle East buying the air defense and ballistic missile systems, after the UAE in 2022 and Saudi Arabia in February this year.
The missiles and unified-integrated systems of the Cheongung-II are manufactured by LIG Nex1, Hanwha System provides the radar, and Hanwha Aerospace Co. manufactures the missile launchers, missile carrier and vehicles.
LIG Nex1 hopes deploying of the advanced technology-based Cheongung-II system, to the air defense networks in three Middle Eastern countries, makes the way to export the long-range, interceptor and fast aircraft missile systems to these countries.
The Federal Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday September 19th, a contract with a South Korean company for the purpose of Iraqi air defense system. It confirmed the advanced medium-range batteries providing to the air defense weapons.
