PM Masrour Barzani, new Dutch Ambassador discusses bilateral relations, upcoming elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Iraq, Janet Alberda, on Monday.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani extended his congratulations to Ambassador Alberda on her new role and pledged his full support for further strengthening bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Netherlands.

He also expressed gratitude for the Netherlands' ongoing support, particularly in backing the KRG's economic diversification reforms, agricultural sector development, and efforts to ensure food security.

Ambassador Alberda, in turn, commended the progress and reforms achieved by the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, particularly in the areas of digitalizing services and reforming the banking sector.

The upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections were also a key topic of discussion. Both sides emphasized the importance of holding the elections in a peaceful, fair, and transparent manner, free from any violations or fraud.

They agreed on the necessity of international observers to monitor the electoral process.
