KRG announces progress on Goptapa-Cham Chamal water project
According to a report from the ministry's General Directorates of Water and Sewage, the project design has been finalized and work is underway to pour concrete and prepare for the extension of electricity lines and pipes.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism announced on Tuesday that progress is being made on the Goptapa-Cham Chamal water project.
According to a report from the ministry's General Directorates of Water and Sewage, the project design has been finalized and work is underway to pour concrete and prepare for the extension of electricity lines and pipes.
The report also stated that 90% of the survey work has been completed, 100% of the soil has been examined, and the basin design has been finalized. Excavation has begun with an area of 15,000 cubic meters, and the project will involve extending 28 kilometers of water transmission lines.
The KRG is committed to completing this strategic project on time to address the water shortages faced by residents of Chamchamal and surrounding areas. The project cost is 114,099,000,580 Iraqi dinars, which will be funded by the KRG. The construction period is expected to be 720 days, beginning on December 8, 2024.
The Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and the General Directorates of Water and Sewage will oversee the project's implementation.
