Former Iraqi PM Allawi congratulates Kurdistan Region on successful elections, calls for strengthened Baghdad-Erbil relations

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Ayad Allawi, leader of the National Coalition and former Prime Minister of Iraq, congratulated the Kurdistan Region on Monday, for its successful parliamentary elections, describing the achievement as "a reflection of commitment to democracy and stability."

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Allawi stated, "This is an important step towards reform and development. We look forward to a parliament and government that will contribute to advancing progress and strengthening relations with Baghdad, resolving all disputes in a way that serves the interests of all Iraqis."

The general voting for the Kurdistan Parliament's sixth term was conducted on Sunday, 2024, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with 2,686,578 eligible voters participating in the democratic process.

Nabard Omar, the head of Kurdistan elections at Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), announced during a press conference that preliminary results of the general vote would be released on Monday.
