ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Air Force fighter jets launched targeted airstrikes on Friday evening, striking key ISIS hideouts in the Kurdistan Region's Garmiyan independent administration, according to a Peshmerga command source. The strikes reportedly targeted areas near Ghara, Palkana, and Duraji, located between Kifri and Tuz Khurmatu, in response to persistent ISIS presence since Oct. 16, 2017.

The Peshmerga source explained that despite multiple search operations in the region, ISIS elements have managed to maintain a foothold in these areas due to their strategic positioning across three connecting provinces: Diyala, Saladin, and Kirkuk.

Meanwhile, US Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh told Kurdistan24 on Thursday that ISIS remains an active threat in Iraq. Singh affirmed that the US and Iraqi security forces will continue joint operations to counter the group's presence in Iraq.
