ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - On Tuesday, the United States will hold its 60th presidential election, with more than 186 million voters eligible to participate in this historic democratic process.

The election continues the long-standing rivalry between the Republican and Democratic parties. The former U.S. president Donald Trump represents the Republican Party, while Kamala Harris, the current vice president, is the Democratic candidate.

According to a CNN report, in early voting, over 78 million voters have already cast their ballots in what will determine America's 47th president. The election culminates today as polling stations nationwide open for in-person voting.

The two major political parties have dominated American politics for more than 170 years, alternating control of the White House and maintaining significant influence over both domestic and foreign policy.

The Republican Party, founded in 1854, has produced 19 presidents throughout its history.

The Democratic Party, established in 1828, has seen 16 presidents, with Andrew Jackson serving as its first president in 1829.

This election takes place amid significant national and global challenges, continuing America's tradition of peaceful power transitions that dates back to 1789.

The electoral process involves both the popular vote and the Electoral College system, with candidates needing 270 electoral votes to secure victory. The outcome will shape U.S. domestic and foreign policy for years to come.
