ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - A roadside bomb struck a joint Kurdish Peshmerga-Iraqi Army patrol near Pelkana village in Khurmatu this morning, killing three Peshmerga members and wounding three Iraqi soldiers.

Kurdistan24 correspondent Herem Jaf reported that Colonel Saman Sabir Sleman, commander of the Third Regiment of the 20th Joint Brigade, Colonel Mohammed, an engineering officer, and a Peshmerga were killed when their patrol struck an improvised explosive device (IED).

Three Iraqi Army soldiers were wounded in the blast.

According to our correspondent, the casualties were transported to Khurmatu Hospital.

The 20th Joint Brigade represents a cooperative security arrangement between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army, operating in disputed territories to maintain security and combat terrorist threats.

Khurmatu, located in these disputed areas, has experienced ongoing security challenges, with joint patrols frequently targeting remaining ISIS cells and other militant activities.

This incident highlights the continuing dangers faced by security forces in these sensitive areas and the human cost of maintaining regional security through joint operations.
