KDP President Barzani, Polish Ambassador discuss post-election government formation, regional stability

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - On Sunday, Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani received Polish Ambassador to Iraq Marcin Kubiak at his office in Pirmam, where they discussed bilateral relations and recent political developments.

During the meeting, Ambassador Kubiak congratulated President Barzani on the successful completion of the Kurdistan Parliament elections and the Kurdistan Democratic Party's victory as the leading party.

The ambassador expressed appreciation for President Barzani's role and Kurdistan Region's institutions in maintaining stability and fostering development in the region.

The Polish diplomat emphasized his country's keen interest in the Kurdistan Region's role within Iraq and the broader region.

"Poland seeks to expand its friendship and cooperation with the Kurdistan Region in education, higher learning, agriculture, and other sectors," Ambassador Kubiak stated.

President Barzani thanked the Polish ambassador and reaffirmed the friendship between both sides.

Regarding the recent parliamentary elections, President Barzani noted, "The significant participation of Kurdistan's people in a peaceful electoral process has made us all proud."

He expressed optimism about the government formation process, adding, "Just as the elections were successful, the government formation process and negotiations between parties will reach a successful conclusion."

President Barzani emphasized his support for forming a broad-based government that reflects the election results.

The meeting also covered Iraqi Prime Minister's recent visit to the Kurdistan Region and efforts to maintain Iraq's stability while addressing future challenges and regional dynamics.

The Kurdistan Region held its parliamentary elections in 2024, resulting in the Kurdistan Democratic Party securing the highest number of seats. The government formation process traditionally involves negotiations between various political parties to form a coalition government.

Poland has maintained diplomatic relations with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, showing particular interest in expanding educational and agricultural cooperation.
