ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated nine new government schools and kindergartens in Erbil on Tuesday, November 26, marking a significant expansion of the region's educational infrastructure.
During his visit to the newly opened Ahmed Rekani Secondary School, PM Barzani emphasized that these openings are part of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) comprehensive education development program, which includes both new construction and renovation of existing facilities through government funding and private sector partnerships.
The Prime Minister praised Kurdistan's teachers for their dedication during challenging times, acknowledging their role in maintaining educational continuity and ensuring students' access to education.
"Following successful elections in the Kurdistan Region, we hope to form a new, strong, service-oriented government as soon as possible to continue our educational sector programs and services," Barzani stated.
The new facilities, which will serve 4,500 students, include:
- Three 18-classroom schools in Bneslawa district (Roshinbiri and Zagros neighborhoods), funded by the KRG
- Three new facilities in private development projects: an 18-classroom school in Peshang City, a 12-classroom school in New Azadi City, and a kindergarten in Atlantic City, all in Erbil
- Two 18-classroom schools in Behrke district and Hiwa City
- A nine-classroom school in Duztepe village in Shemamk sub-district
This educational infrastructure expansion represents a significant milestone in the KRG's ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education across the region.
The mix of government-funded and private sector projects demonstrates the region's commitment to public-private partnerships in developing essential services.
These new facilities come at a crucial time as the region prepares for a new government following recent elections, with education remaining a key priority in the KRG's development agenda.
