Iraq calls for urgent Arab League meeting to address Syria crisis

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein announced on Friday that Iraq will call for an urgent Arab League meeting at the ministerial level to address the escalating crisis in Syria, emphasizing that Syria’s stability is vital for regional security, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In a joint press conference with his Syrian and Iranian counterparts in Baghdad, Hussein outlined Iraq’s commitment to supporting Syria amidst ongoing challenges posed by terrorism.
“We discussed the situation in Syria in detail and its repercussions on neighboring countries, particularly Iraq,” Hussein stated. He underlined that "Syria's security is interconnected with the security of the region," adding that Iraq strongly condemns terrorist attacks targeting Syria.
The foreign minister highlighted Iraq’s firsthand experience with terrorism, reiterating the country’s resolve to protect its borders and territories. "Our armed forces are ready to safeguard our homeland against any terrorist threats,” he said.
Hussein confirmed Baghdad’s initiative to convene a regional meeting to address the critical situation in Syria. He revealed ongoing consultations with key regional players, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Jordan, to coordinate efforts toward de-escalation and stability.
The minister also expressed Iraq’s unwavering support for the Syrian people through the provision of humanitarian aid, reaffirming Baghdad’s commitment to leveraging diplomatic channels to foster calm in the war-torn nation.
