ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - According to a report by Agence France-Presse, cyclone Chido, which previously devastated the French archipelago of Mayotte, has caused considerable destruction in Mozambique.

According to the National Institute of Risk and Disaster Management in Mozambique, the cyclone has claimed 76 lives so far.

According to the institute, the cyclone made landfall in Mozambique following the death and destruction it left behind in Mayotte, where hundreds are feared to have been killed.

The cyclone struck Mozambique in the northern province of Cabo Delgado and has reportedly devastated approximately 62,000 homes.

The International Organization of Migration said in a statement that, “Shelter, food and Non-food items (NFIs) - particularly hygiene kits, dignity kits, soap, and mosquito nets are identified as being the most urgent needs for the affected population.”
