ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Monday, a top delegation from the People’s Democratic Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) met with Future Party Leader Ahmet Davutoğlu in Ankara.

The meeting included discussions for advancing a series of strategic political consultations aimed at fostering a new peace initiative.

The delegation, consisting of Ahmet Türk, Sırrı Süreyya Önder, and Pervin Buldan, is conducting these meetings following their important meeting with the imprisoned Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan on Dec. 28, 2024, in İmralı prison.

According to parliamentary sources, the delegation is set to hold separate meetings with the ruling AK Party and Saadat Party parliamentary groups.

The diplomatic initiative will continue on Tuesday, Jan. 7, with planned meetings with DEVA Party leader Ali Babacan and Yenidan Refah Party chairman Fatih Erbakan.

The meetings coincide with the Turkish Parliament’s agenda focusing on the Kurdish issue and the potential framework for a new peace process.

The Dem Party delegation aims to brief all political factions on their recent consultations, seeking to build parliamentary consensus.

The main opposition CHP’s position continues to be uncertain, with party leader Özgür Özel indicating that their party leadership council will evaluate the prospect of meeting with the DEM Party delegation.

During the recent İmralı meetings, Ocalan expressed willingness to participate constructively in the dialogue initiative proposed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and MHP leader Bahçeli.

He stated, “I have the capability and will to make necessary positive contributions, as this era demands peace, democracy, and brotherhood for Turkey and the region.”
