Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - Marco Rubio, the nominee for U.S. Secretary of State in the Donald Trump administration, on Wednesday emphasized the importance of maintaining American support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in their ongoing battle against the Islamic State in Iraq and Sham (ISIS) terrorist group.

Rubio stressed that the United States must continue its collaboration with the Kurdish forces in Syria, underlining that "the U.S. presence in Syria must remain to combat ISIS and prevent its resurgence in the region."

Rubio pointed out that the situation in Syria remains critical and that ISIS continues to pose a significant threat. He emphasized a sustained U.S. support for the SDF to ensure stability in Syria.

In another development, earlier this month, President Masoud Barzani praised the cooperation between Kurdish factions in Syria. He sent his special envoy to Syria to meet with Kurdish factions there, emphasizing the importance of unity among these groups.

It expressed strong support for the Kurdish leadership’s initiatives to unify and coordinate these groups, recognizing this as a crucial step toward regional stabilization.

These recent American statements, coupled with President Barzani's initiatives, reflect significant progress in Kurdish coordination, particularly in addressing security challenges such as the potential resurgence of terrorism. This collaboration demonstrates a broader effort to enhance security in both Syria and Iraq that face persistent threats from ISIS.

The continuation of U.S. support for the SDF is a key component of Washington's strategy in the region. The U.S. aims to prevent ISIS from regaining its strength and recovering the territories it lost in recent years, thereby contributing to the overall security of the region.
