ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed important developments in Russian-Iranian relations and reiterated support for Syria during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart on Friday.

During the Moscow summit, Putin described the discussions with President Pezeshkian as "productive," highlighting mutual agreement on protecting regional sovereignty.

The talks have reportedly produced concrete progress on bilateral cooperation, including plans to expand direct flights between the two countries and potential visa requirement eliminations to facilitate travel.

Regarding Syria, President Putin vowed sustained Russian support for Syria's sovereignty and stability, committing financial support for reconstruction efforts.

"We remain steadfast in our support of the Syrian people as they work toward achieving their legitimate aspirations," Putin stated, expressing optimism about Syria's capability to surmount current challenges.

The two sides also addressed the current situation in Gaza, reaching an agreement on the need for a wide-ranging ceasefire implementation.

President Putin highlighted that both nations support the release of all detainees, viewing these steps as crucial for improving conditions in Gaza.

This summit occurs amid the strengthening of Russian-Iranian relations, as both nations face Western sanctions and seek to deepen their strategic partnership.

The meeting's timing is especially important given regional developments in the Middle East and continuing global geopolitical realignments.

The discussions reflected both nations' common interest in maintaining influence in Syria, where Russia has been militarily involved since 2015 and Iran maintains significant strategic interests.

Their combined support had been critical for the overthrown Syrian government's position during the atrocious years of civil conflict.
