Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi Congratulates KDP on 80th Anniversary, Calls for Continued Partnership and National Unity

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi extended his warmest congratulations on Sunday to the leadership, base, and supporters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party on the occasion of the party's 80th founding anniversary, wishing the KDP continued success and prosperity.

"Warmest congratulations and felicitations to the leadership and bases of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and its masses, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the founding of the party, wishing them continued success and prosperity," al-Zaidi said in his congratulatory message.

The prime minister used the occasion to recall the KDP's political trajectory and its contributions to Iraq's national life alongside the rest of the country's political forces, framing the anniversary as an opportunity to reaffirm the shared responsibilities binding Baghdad and Erbil.

"On this occasion, we recall its political trajectory and contributions to national life alongside the rest of the Iraqi political forces, and we affirm the importance of continuing joint efforts to consolidate partnership in the homeland, enhance stability, preserve the unity and sovereignty of Iraq, and build a future that fulfills the aspirations of all its sons and daughters," al-Zaidi said.

The prime minister's message arrives at a significant moment in the Baghdad-Erbil relationship. Al-Zaidi met with President Donald Trump at the White House earlier this month, in a visit that produced the landmark Starlink licensing agreement for Iraq and strengthened the framework of US-Iraq economic and security cooperation. His office has also been managing the sensitive process of militia disarmament and weapons handover, working to bring Iran-aligned armed factions within Iraq's formal state security structure, a process that has drawn both American and international support.

Al-Zaidi's emphasis on preserving Iraq's unity and sovereignty alongside the consolidation of partnership between Baghdad and Erbil reflects the dual imperative facing his government, managing the centrifugal pressures of a regionalized conflict environment while maintaining functional cooperation with the Kurdistan Region, which has remained one of Iraq's most stable and diplomatically engaged governing entities throughout the five months of the US-Iran war.
