KRG Representative Meets Dutch Foreign Ministry Officials to Discuss Regional Developments

ERBIL (Kurdistn24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Representative to the European Union, Delavar Ajgeiy, met with senior officials at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss Erbil-Baghdad relations, regional stability, and Kurdish unity efforts in Syria.

Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

During his visit to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Delavar Ajgeiy, accompanied by a delegation, held talks with Guusje Korthals Altes, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department, and the Head of the Iraq Department.

Ajgeiy offered an overview of the recent developments in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the broader region, highlighting the KRG's commitment to restoring stability and security.

He emphasized the KRG leadership's attempts to ensure the rights of all communities in the region, including the Kurdish population in Syria.

Focus on Kurdish Unity and Regional Stability

The discussions included the developing situation in Syria, with specific attention to President Masoud Barzani’s and KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s roles in promoting unity among Kurdish parties. Ajgeiy underlined that consolidation of Kurdish unity is essential to ensuring the rights of Kurds and other communities in Syria.

Erbil-Baghdad Relations

The KRG Representative also briefed the Dutch officials on the status of Erbil-Baghdad relations, covering crucial issues such as efforts to resolve the salary issue affecting KRG employees and progress toward resuming Kurdistan oil exports.

Another aspect of the discussion centered on the steps to implement Article 140 of the Iraqi Constitution, which addresses Kurdish territories outside the KRG’s administrative control.

Dutch Support for Kurdistan

Guusje Korthals Altes applauded the KRG’s leadership for fostering stability and resolving internal disputes.

She reaffirmed the Netherlands' commitment to supporting the Kurdistan Region, particularly in the ongoing fight against ISIS, implementing reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga, and strengthening economic cooperation to drive development in the Kurdistan Region.

A Continued Partnership

The meeting reiterated the Netherlands’ role as an important partner for the Kurdistan Region in advancing stability, security, and development.

It also emphasized the KRG's proactive engagement in tackling both local and regional challenges while maintaining strong international ties.
