ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein emphasized the significance of Iraq’s relationship with the United States, asserting that it is essential for both nations. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Hussein stated that Baghdad has conveyed this stance clearly to Tehran.

He reassured that the current US administration does not pose a threat to Iraq, dispelling any concerns about potential shifts in policy.

"Iraq and Iran are not the same package. We are two close neighbors with many trade, cultural, historical, and social ties, but we are two different states," Hussein said, underlining Iraq’s independent foreign policy stance.

Hussein also highlighted Iraq's past efforts to mediate between the US and Iran, acknowledging that tensions between the two nations have had a detrimental impact on Iraq’s stability and development.

The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing regional challenges, with Iraq striving to balance its strategic partnerships while maintaining sovereignty in its foreign relations.
