ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Iraqi government has uncovered widespread encroachments on state-owned properties valued at more than 40 trillion Iraqi dinars, prompting an investigation into missing records and illicit acquisitions.

According to Amir al-Mamouri, head of the Parliamentary Committee for the Protection of State Lands and Property, thousands of public properties have been illegally misallocated since 2003, with officials now working to expose those responsible.

Speaking to Alsumaria TV, al-Mamouri revealed that over 9,000 state-owned properties have been misused, with more than 5,000 cases concentrated in Karkh and Rusafa alone.

He stated that the committee’s findings indicate a systemic cover-up, with dozens of key records deliberately hidden, each containing evidence of hundreds of unlawfully appropriated properties.

Among the most alarming findings is the misallocation of valuable properties worth up to five billion dinars.

Al-Mamouri explained that while these properties were initially earmarked for eligible government employees under the public benefits program, they were instead handed over to ineligible individuals under fraudulent pretenses.

The investigation has uncovered the disappearance of 100 official registries, each containing detailed records of 400 state properties.

Authorities remain uncertain about where these records were taken or who was responsible for their concealment, prompting an urgent parliamentary probe.

Al-Mamouri confirmed that the committee intends to reveal the names of all individuals involved in the illegal acquisition of state property and will refer the findings to the judiciary for legal action.
