ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed his country’s strong support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and called for their integration into the Syrian army as part of Syria’s political transition.

His remarks came during the Paris conference on Syria held in France, aimed at addressing post-conflict stabilization and political reconciliation.

SDF’s Role in Syria’s Future

Macron emphasized that France recognizes the sacrifices made by the SDF, particularly the Kurdish leadership, in the fight against terrorism, stressing that their role must not be disregarded in shaping Syria’s future.

He underscored that a comprehensive political transition should ensure the inclusion of all stakeholders, particularly those who have contributed to the stability and security of the region.

The French President also reiterated France’s commitment to combating extremist groups, stating that the fight against ISIS must continue to prevent the resurgence of terrorist threats in Syria.

Regional Security and Support for Stability

Addressing broader regional security concerns, Macron warned against the increasing presence of Iranian-linked groups in Syria, emphasizing that Syria must not become a platform for destabilizing forces.

He announced that France will allocate €50 million to support stability efforts in Syria, reaffirming Paris' commitment to aiding the Syrian people in rebuilding their country.

Facilitating Refugee Mobility

Macron also introduced a new initiative allowing Syrian refugees in France to obtain transit permits, enabling them to return to Syria and re-enter France safely.

This measure aims to facilitate a more structured and secure return process for those wishing to visit their homeland while maintaining legal residency in France.

The Paris conference on Syria convened international leaders, diplomats, and policymakers to explore viable pathways for political transition, discuss mechanisms for reconstruction, and evaluate the role of international partnerships in ensuring long-term peace and stability in the war-torn country.
