ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNCS) criticized the exclusion of Kurdish political forces from the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, warning that it constitutes a violation of national partnership principles and an attempt to marginalize a key component of the Syrian people.

In a statement published on Thursday, KNCS spokesperson Faisal Yusuf condemned the absence of Kurdish political representation in the dialogue sessions held in Damascus, emphasizing that such an approach disregards the historic struggle and legitimate rights of the Kurdish people, who have long suffered from discriminatory policies and exclusion.

"The Kurdish political movement possesses a comprehensive vision that reflects the aspirations of the Kurdish people and provides practical solutions for their issues within a unified national framework," Yusuf stated.

"Any national dialogue that does not include genuine participation from all components particularly the Kurds—cannot be serious or productive."

KNCS Engages in Dialogue, Pushes for Representation

Despite concerns over exclusion, the KNCS has continued to engage in political discussions with officials overseeing the dialogue process.

On February 16, a KNCS delegation, met with Hassan Al-Daghim, a member of the Preparatory Committee for the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, in Damascus.

During the meeting, KNCS representatives reaffirmed their commitment to the Syrian national cause and highlighted their role in the early stages of the revolution, rejecting all attempts by previous regimes to sideline Kurdish participation.

"We stressed that the KNCS represents the majority of the Kurdish people and should be fully included in all transitional political processes," KNCS statement following the meeting.

Formation of the Preparatory Committee and Future Dialogue Plans

On February 12, Syrian interim president Ahmed Al-Sharaa issued a decree forming the Preparatory Committee for the National Dialogue Conference, which includes seven members.

The presidential decree, published on the Syrian government's official account on X,  emphasized that the committee was established to serve the "national interest" and ensure an inclusive dialogue that represents all segments of Syrian society.

While the KNCS welcomes the transition, it remains firm in its demand for Kurdish representation in the political decision-making process, warning that any agreement failing to secure constitutional Kurdish rights would be seen as a compromise on fundamental principles.

The Kurdish political movement now faces a critical juncture, as efforts continue to ensure inclusivity in Syria’s future governance, with the KNCS standing firm in its calls for equal representation and recognition of Kurdish national identity.
