KRG Interior Minister, Iraq’s National Security Advisor Discuss Security Agreement, Prisoner Transfers

The officials addressed legal procedures regarding prisoners serving sentences in the Kurdistan Region and reaffirmed that all cases should be managed in accordance with Iraqi law and proper legal channels.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Rebar Ahmed, the Interior Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), met with Iraq's National Security Advisor, Qasim al-Araji, in Erbil to discuss the Iran-Iraq security agreement and the status of prisoners held in the Kurdistan Region who are sought by the federal government.

The discussions, held at the KRG Interior Ministry headquarters, were also attended by Ghulam Ishaqzai, Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Iraq for Humanitarian Affairs and Development.

Earlier in the day, the joint committee of the Kurdistan Region and the federal government convened at the Interior Ministry to review the implementation of the Iran-Iraq security agreement.

Additionally, the meeting underscored the importance of strengthening security coordination among the KRG, the federal government, and Iran to ensure regional stability and border security.

The discussions reflected a shared commitment to upholding legal frameworks while fostering cooperative efforts to address security challenges and maintain stability in the region.
