ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Israel is working to gain international support for transforming Syria into a federal system, according to a report published by The Wall Street Journal.

Pressure on Damascus

The report suggests that Tel Aviv is actively seeking to weaken the Syrian government, a move that could have far-reaching consequences.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the Druze community in Syria, warning that Israel will not allow any harm to come to them.

Financial and Political Support for the Druze

According to the WSJ report, Israel has allocated over 1 billion Dollars to support the Druze in Syria, aiming to strengthen their political standing amid the shifting dynamics in the country. This initiative comes as the Druze community in Israel faces socio-economic and political challenges, prompting the government to take measures to improve their situation.

Druze Opposition to Partitioning Syria

Meanwhile, protests have erupted in Druze-majority areas of Syria, rejecting Israel’s alleged plans to influence the country’s political future. Druze leaders have reiterated their commitment to Syria’s unity and strongly opposed any attempts to partition the nation.

Laith al-Balous, a prominent Druze leader in Suwayda province, stated, "Our stance is clear—we do not want war, and we refuse to see Syria turned into a sectarian state."

Syrian Leadership Condemns Israeli Actions

Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, addressing the Arab League summit in Cairo, condemned Israel’s military actions, reaffirming Syria’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights. "Since Israel occupied the Syrian Golan in 1967, it has never ceased its violations against our people," Sharaa declared.
