ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – An unexploded ordnance caused a deadly explosion in the Raml neighborhood of Syria’s coastal city of Latakia on Saturday, killing at least three people and injuring several others, according to state-run Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights described the incident as an “accident,” stating that the blast occurred when a resident attempted to dismantle an unexploded ordnance inside the building.

“The explosion shook the Al-Rimal neighborhood,” SANA reported, citing preliminary information from the civil defense. Civilians remain trapped under the rubble as rescue teams continue their efforts.

Emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene to assist with rescue operations.

The incident comes just days after mass killings in areas considered the heartland of Syria’s former president, Bashar al-Assad.
