ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - An AK Party spokesperson announced on Monday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will participate in this year’s Newroz celebrations, a festival widely observed across Turkey and the region.

"We will attend the Newroz celebrations on March 21," stated Ömer Çelik, the AK Party's spokesperson. However, he did not specify which provinces or cities the president would visit.

The announcement comes at a time of renewed discussions about peace efforts. On Feb. 27, Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), called for the group’s disarmament in a message delivered by prominent Kurdish politician Ahmet Türk.

Further signaling progress, the Turkish newspaper Turkey, known for its close ties to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), reported on March 1 that Öcalan’s message calling for the disbandment of the PKK has been reviewed multiple times by Turkish security officials.

President Erdogan’s presence at the Newroz celebrations may hold symbolic significance as discussions on long-term stability and reconciliation continue.
