Diplomats Arrive in Erbil to Join Kurdistan’s Newroz Celebrations
Speaking on behalf of the PM, The Foreign Relations Department Head said, “Your participation in the Newroz and Kurdish New Year festivities alongside the people of Kurdistan is deeply appreciated.

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A large delegation of ambassadors and diplomatic envoys from various countries arrived in Erbil on Thursday to participate in the vibrant Newroz celebrations, following an official invitation from Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
The Iraqi Federal Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, accompanied the delegation. Upon their arrival at Erbil International Airport, they were welcomed by the Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Department of Foreign Relations, and his deputy.
Speaking on behalf of the Prime Minister, the Head of the Foreign Relations Department expressed his gratitude for their presence, stating:
“Your participation in the Newroz and Kurdish New Year festivities alongside the people of Kurdistan is deeply appreciated. We hope you enjoy your time in the Kurdistan Region.”
The visiting envoys, including ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and representatives of international organizations, are set to join Kurdistan Regional Government officials in the annual Newroz celebrations held in Erbil. The celebrations serve as a symbol of resilience, renewal, and the cultural heritage of the Kurdish people.
Kurdistan Prepares for Newroz and Ramadan Festivities
In anticipation of both Newroz, Kurdistan Region authorities have implemented comprehensive preparations to accommodate the expected influx of visitors. The dual celebrations, occurring just days apart this year, prompted extensive coordination to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.
According to Ibrahim Abdulmajid, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region’s Tourism Board, the preparations are taking place across multiple provinces and autonomous administrations. “We are committed to offering visitors the best possible experience during their time in Kurdistan,” Abdulmajid told Kurdistan 24.
Tourism Trends During the Festive Season
While the overlap of Newroz with Ramadan has led to a decline in domestic tourism from southern and central Iraq — where many observe fasting — international visitors remain undeterred. Tourists from Europe and other regions continue to travel to Kurdistan, drawn by the region’s traditional celebrations and cultural attractions.
One of the most prominent events is the iconic Newroz fire-lighting ceremony in Akre, famously recognized as the heart of the celebrations. The event gathers thousands of attendees each year, including foreign tourists eager to witness the vibrant cultural display.
