Erbil (Kurdistan24) — The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, visited Doha with a clear objective to draw upon Qatar’s extensive experience in economic and commercial management, according to Mohammed Shukri, head of the Kurdistan Region’s Investment Board.
In an exclusive statement to Kurdistan24, Shukri highlighted the significance of the visit, emphasizing the desire to attract Qatari investments in key sectors such as economy, agriculture, tourism, and energy.
"Qatar is a leading nation in investment, with established projects in numerous countries," Shukri said. "Our goal is to channel their expertise to stimulate economic growth in the Kurdistan Region."
Strategic Gulf Relations for Economic Growth
Shukri underscored the economic and political importance of Gulf countries in the Middle East, pointing out that the Kurdistan Region’s strategic geographical location and its growing relations with Gulf states grant it a distinct economic advantage.
"Strengthening ties with Gulf nations like Qatar and the UAE will undoubtedly contribute to the Kurdistan Region’s economic stability," he noted.
He further highlighted Prime Minister Barzani’s strong connections with Gulf leaders, stating that such relationships will enhance investment opportunities and support the region’s long-term economic goals.
Expanding Gulf Investments in Kurdistan
According to Shukri, Gulf companies currently represent only 3 to 4 percent of total foreign investments in the Kurdistan Region. He stressed that the regional government is committed to increasing this share through intensified diplomatic and economic engagements with Gulf countries.
"Kurdistan plans to organize more visits and forums to attract Gulf investments," Shukri explained.
Barzani’s Productive Meetings in Doha
During his visit to Qatar, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Barzani held a key meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
"This visit marks a significant step toward expanding our partnership with Qatar," Shukri concluded. "We are optimistic about future collaboration and the positive impact it will have on our economy."
