ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday congratulated the Kurdistan Teachers’ Union on its 63rd anniversary, commending the union’s continued struggle and key role in shaping the future of the region.

In a message marking the milestone, Barzani extended his "warmest congratulations to the president, secretariat members, and all teachers of Kurdistan" and wished them continued success in their mission. The Prime Minister lauded the Kurdistan Teachers’ Union for its dedication to securing the rights and demands of teachers, emphasizing the high regard in which Kurdish teachers are held for their contributions to education and society.

"We deeply value the efforts and sacrifices of the Kurdistan Teachers’ Union in advocating for the rights and demands of our teachers," Barzani said. "Teachers play a vital role in educating and guiding our new generations, and we have great appreciation and respect for their mission."

Looking ahead, Barzani expressed hope that Kurdistan’s educators would continue nurturing a generation rooted in sound education, national consciousness, and a love for the homeland. He stressed the importance of raising a new cohort of thinkers, scientists, and environmentally conscious citizens who can actively contribute to the progress and development of the Kurdistan Region.

"With a solid foundation of proper education and a deep sense of patriotism and commitment to Kurdistan, I hope our teachers will guide the next generation toward knowledge, innovation, and sustainability," the statement concluded.

Founded in 1962, the Kurdistan Teachers’ Union has played a central role in defending the rights of educators in the region, particularly during periods of political repression and economic hardship. Throughout its history, the union has acted as a voice for thousands of teachers, advocating for better working conditions, salaries, and educational reforms, especially in the aftermath of the 1991 Kurdish uprising and the establishment of the Kurdistan Region’s autonomous government.
