Iraq Reaffirms Airspace Protection as Regional Tensions Rise

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraq’s Air Defense Forces are operating at full capacity to safeguard the nation’s skies and vital infrastructure, amid heightened regional tensions.

Lieutenant General Muhannad Ghalib al-Asadi, Commander of the Air Defense Forces, confirmed on Sunday that the country's defense systems are maintaining regular operations to protect Iraq’s sovereignty.

“In coordination with the armed forces, air defense units are continuing their duties as part of routine operational procedures to shield all critical targets across Iraq,” Al-Asadi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA). He added that the country’s military remains vigilant and ready to respond to any potential threats.

The statement comes as part of ongoing efforts to reassure the public and maintain stability amid growing concerns over the conflict between Iran and Israel.

In a related development, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, al-Sudani reiterated Iraq’s commitment to preventing the escalation of the conflict and expressed readiness to support regional de-escalation efforts.
