ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi Airways announced on Monday that it will resume flights for Iraqi citizens wishing to return from Jordan, following a temporary suspension of regional air travel due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

In a statement issued on Monday, Iraqi Airways said, “Due to the current regional situation, we inform Iraqi citizens in Amman who wish to travel to Basra that our company will operate a direct flight from Queen Alia International Airport in Amman to Basra International Airport.”

The statement confirmed that the scheduled flight will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 9:00 AM.

Iraqi Airways has urged all citizens wishing to travel on this route to register their names in advance in order to secure a seat.

The resumption of flights comes after nearly ten days of air traffic suspension across the region. On Friday, June 13, 2025, Israel initiated a series of coordinated air and drone strikes on Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure under the operation codenamed “Rising Lion.” The attacks triggered a powerful retaliatory response from Tehran, which launched dozens of missiles and drones targeting Israeli cities and military bases, plunging the region into a volatile conflict.

As the situation escalated, many airlines suspended flights across the Middle East, leaving thousands of citizens and travelers stranded in neighboring countries. Iraqi Airways' latest announcement marks one of the first commercial efforts to reestablish air connectivity amid the continuing crisis.

The airline’s decision to restart limited operations suggests a cautious but growing attempt to restore mobility for civilians affected by the ongoing hostilities, though full normalization of regional air travel remains uncertain pending developments on the ground.

Iraqi authorities have not yet indicated whether additional flights will be made available beyond the June 26 trip to Basra.

Kurdistan24 will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available.
