ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Israeli military reported that it detected missiles launched toward Israel from Iran, prompting sirens to sound in several areas across the country, CNN correspondents Eugenia Yosef and Helen Regan reported.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its defensive systems were activated in response to the missile threat. “A short while ago, sirens sounded in several areas across Israel following the identification of missiles launched from Iran toward the State of Israel,” the IDF said in a statement.
“At this time, the Israeli Air Force is operating to intercept and strike where necessary to eliminate the threat,” the statement added.
This development comes amid complex diplomatic and military interactions following U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s recent announcement of a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” agreement between Israel and Iran. Trump’s statement, published on his Truth Social platform, claimed that both nations had agreed to a staggered ceasefire, marking the formal end of what he described as “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi tempered expectations regarding the ceasefire, stating on X that no formal agreement had been reached. Araghchi said Iran’s military operations would continue until 4 a.m. Tehran time and that the final decision on cessation of hostilities would be made later, conditioned on Israel halting its aggression by that deadline.
The missile alert in Israel signals ongoing tensions and the fragile nature of any pause in the conflict, as both sides remain on high alert.
