Runaki Project Works to Deliver 24-Hour Electricity to Erbil’s Kandenawa Plain
Abdulsalam, an electrical technician with the project, told Kurdistan24, “We start work at 5 AM and continue until 5 PM. At the moment, we are repairing two electricity feeders in Kandenawa, which will remain offline until maintenance is complete.”

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Teams working on the Runaki project have been operating in the Dibaga district and the villages of the Kandenawa Plain for the past two days, aiming to provide residents with uninterrupted 24-hour electricity.
Abdulsalam, an electrical technician with the project, told Kurdistan24, “We start work at 5 AM and continue until 5 PM. At the moment, we are repairing two electricity feeders in Kandenawa, which will remain offline until maintenance is complete.”
He explained that the work involves repairing transformers that lack smart systems, adding, “We are working daily and without interruption to complete the project as quickly as possible so that citizens can enjoy 24-hour electricity. We handle 90 to 100 transformers each day, as the area is quite large. It will take another 10 to 15 days to finish all the transformers.”
According to Abdulsalam, if the work continues as planned, homes in Kandenawa could have round-the-clock electricity within the next month.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Electricity announced July 31 that more than 2.7 million citizens — approximately 40% of the Kurdistan Region’s population — now enjoy uninterrupted 24-hour electricity through the Runaki Project.
