New US Consul General Wendy Green introduces herself in a video, highlighting the nearly-complete Erbil consulate as a "testament" to the US-Kurdistan Region partnership. She pledges to deepen security, economic, and cultural ties.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a video message published by the United States Consulate General in Erbil, Wendy Green, the newly appointed U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, introduced herself to the public and underscored Washington’s enduring commitment to the region.
Speaking in front of the nearly completed new U.S. Consulate complex in Erbil, Green described the facility as more than just an office space.
“The new consulate is not just a building, but a testament to the strength of our partnership and the importance of the United States’ relationship with the Kurdistan Region,” she stated.
The compound, nearing completion, is set to become the largest U.S. consular facility in the world, symbolizing America’s long-term investment in the Kurdistan Region.
“My name is Wendy Green, and I’m the new U.S. Consul General in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region,” she began.
Originally from Texas and now based on a cattle ranch in northern Arkansas, Green highlighted her excitement to travel across the Kurdistan Region, meet its people, and learn about its rich history and culture.
“I look forward to spending the next two years in the Kurdistan Region, working to further build the U.S.-Kurdish partnership. I’m eager to partner with you to deepen our security, economic, educational, and cultural ties,” she affirmed.
Green brings with her nearly 25 years of diplomatic service in conflict and post-conflict environments worldwide.
“I’m proud of my work on security and peace-building in conflict and post-conflict environments, commercial and development, building bridges and trust with the United States that brings prosperity to both countries, as well as innovative approaches to enhancing voices of our communities,” she said.
Before assuming her new role in Erbil, Green served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia (2023–2025). In that role, she oversaw more than 1,500 staff, managed an operational budget exceeding $60 million, and coordinated over $1.6 billion in humanitarian and development projects.
Her experience managing large-scale operations and humanitarian programs is expected to strengthen her work in the Kurdistan Region.
Closing her message, Green reaffirmed that the new U.S. Consulate in Erbil will stand as a symbol of partnership.
“As you can see behind me, we are really close to completion,” she noted, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in U.S.-Kurdistan relations.
