ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani on Wednesday received a high-level delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), led by Fazil Mirani, to discuss the country’s political and security landscape amid ongoing regional developments.

According to a statement from the prime minister’s media office, the meeting focused on the overall situation in Iraq, with both sides underscoring the importance of continued coordination among national political forces. They stressed the need to unify positions to effectively address challenges stemming from rapidly evolving regional dynamics.

The discussions also covered internal political affairs, where both parties highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue to resolve constitutional issues. In particular, they emphasized the need to convene a dedicated parliamentary session to elect the President of the Republic in a manner that reflects the aspirations of all components of Iraqi society.

The meeting comes amid intensified political consultations across Iraq. On Tuesday evening, Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition, also hosted a KDP delegation led by Mirani in Baghdad. That meeting reviewed Iraq’s security situation in light of regional tensions and stressed the importance of safeguarding internal stability and strengthening state institutions.

Both rounds of talks highlighted the urgency of maintaining a unified national front to confront external challenges while advancing key political processes, including resolving constitutional matters and electing a new president.

Earlier this week, political parties within the Coordination Framework agreed to grant additional time for negotiations among political forces, following a request by President Masoud Barzani to facilitate consensus on outstanding issues.
