Qatar Airways to Resume Erbil Flights on Aug. 8 After Two-Week Suspension
The airline had initially announced on July 23 that flights to Bahrain and Erbil would be suspended through July 25, while services to Kuwait would remain halted through July 31.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Qatar Airways announced on Thursday that it will resume scheduled flights to Erbil, Kuwait, and Bahrain beginning Aug. 8, ending a suspension that lasted for more than two weeks due to regional security concerns.
The airline had initially announced on July 23 that flights to Bahrain and Erbil would be suspended through July 25, while services to Kuwait would remain halted through July 31. Days later, Qatar Airways extended the suspension for all three destinations until Aug. 7, citing operational and safety considerations amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
With the latest announcement, scheduled services to Erbil, Bahrain, and Kuwait will restart on Aug. 8.
The disruption followed the outbreak of the Iran war in late February, which triggered repeated airspace closures over Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, and parts of the Gulf. The restrictions forced airlines to cancel thousands of flights, suspend numerous routes, and reroute aircraft to avoid conflict zones.
Major aviation hubs, including Doha, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, also experienced periodic operational disruptions as missile and drone attacks prompted temporary restrictions on civilian air traffic. Airlines were forced to reshuffle aircraft, reposition crews, and adjust schedules in response to rapidly evolving security conditions.
Despite the disruptions, Qatar Airways remained one of the world's largest international carriers. During its latest fiscal year, the airline generated approximately $23 billion in revenue, transported 41.8 million passengers, and handled more than 2.8 million tonnes of cargo across its global network.
