Araghchi Says No Decision Has Been Made to Resume Talks With US
Iran’s foreign minister says indirect message exchanges with Washington are continuing, while Tehran has yet to decide on formally restarting negotiations.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Saturday that, despite continued exchanges of messages through mediators, Tehran has made no decision to resume formal negotiations with the United States.
The Iranian ISNA news agency quoted Araghchi on Saturday, as saying that Tehran expects to reach an outcome soon in its talks with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi stressed that negotiations with Oman and the question of reopening the Strait of Hormuz are two entirely separate issues.
The Iranian foreign minister also said reopening the Strait of Hormuz is contingent on the implementation of several conditions that the United States must commit to fulfilling.
Regarding negotiations with Washington, Araghchi said no decision had so far been made to restart talks with the United States.
He added that exchanges of messages through mediators remain ongoing, but said this does not amount to a formal resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States.
