Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Congratulates KDP on 80th Anniversary, Calls for Unity Around National and Democratic Goals
PUK Political Bureau sends a congratulatory message on August 16, expressing hope that the struggle of all sides will make national and democratic objectives the foundation for navigating the challenges facing Kurdistan and the region
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - The Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan sent a congratulatory message late Saturday to the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the KDP's founding, extending felicitations to its members and supporters and expressing hope for continued unity of purpose around Kurdish national and democratic goals.
The message, brief and direct in its tone, paired the congratulations with a call for collective responsibility at a moment of significant challenge. "On this occasion, we hope that the struggle of all sides will make national and democratic objectives the foundation for navigating the situation facing Kurdistan and our region," the PUK Political Bureau wrote. "In the interest of consolidating and responsibly correcting the course of our shared experience."
The message reflects the spirit of inter-party solidarity that has defined the public relationship between the KDP and PUK across recent years, with the two parties forming the backbone of the Kurdistan Region's political system and governing together through successive cabinets. The PUK's emphasis on making national and democratic goals the shared foundation for addressing current challenges is consistent with the broader political discourse in the Region at a moment when the formation of a Tenth Cabinet, constitutional consolidation, and insulation from regional instability are all pressing priorities.
The KDP on the same day issued its own 80th anniversary statement from its Political Bureau, pledging to protect the Region's constitutional status, strengthen democratic foundations, form a strong Tenth Cabinet, and keep Kurdistan insulated from the conflicts and crises surrounding it, goals that closely mirror the spirit of the PUK's congratulatory message.
The PUK Political Bureau closed its message with a reiterated congratulation: "Once again, congratulations."
