Turkmen Party Condemns Drone Attacks on Kurdistan Prime Minister's Office
Mohammed Saadaddin Ilkhani condemns attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region prime minister's private office and the Parastin chief's residence, saying they threaten peace and coexistence.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Turkmen Development Party has condemned Monday's drone attacks targeting the private office of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the director of the Kurdistan Region's Protection Agency, warning that such attacks pose a serious threat to the people, stability and political standing of the Region.
In a statement issued Monday, Mohammed Saadaddin Ilkhani, leader of the Turkmen Development Party, described the attacks as unjustified and said they threatened the security of a region that serves as a home for different ethnic and religious communities.
"We condemn these unjustified attacks carried out against the private office of the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region and the residence of the Director of the Protection Agency," the party said in its statement.
The party stressed that the Kurdistan Region is a constitutional entity operating within a democratic political system and described it as a safe haven for its diverse communities and a model of coexistence.
"These types of attacks pose a grave threat to the people of Kurdistan, the Region's entity, and the peace and stability of the area," Ilkhani said.
The statement added that attacks of this nature violate principles of peace and international law and constitute a direct threat to national sovereignty. The party called for the protection of the Kurdistan Region's stability and its institutions.
The condemnation followed a statement from the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Directorate, which said two explosive-laden drones targeted the properties early Monday morning.
According to the directorate, the drones were Hadid-110 types and were launched from across the Iranian border at approximately 12:28 a.m. They targeted the headquarters of the prime minister's private office and the residence of the head of the Parastin Agency in the Pirmam area of Erbil province.
No casualties were reported.
The Counter-Terrorism Directorate condemned the attacks as "entirely unacceptable" and said those responsible would bear full responsibility for the consequences.
The incident marks another escalation involving drone attacks against the Kurdistan Region amid heightened regional tensions. In recent days, authorities have reported other attempts to target Erbil's airspace, underscoring continuing concerns over the security of the Region and its vital political and economic infrastructure.
For the Turkmen Development Party, the significance of Monday's attack extends beyond the immediate targets.
Its statement framed the security of Kurdistan's institutions as inseparable from the protection of the Region's diverse population and its model of coexistence.
The party urged that attacks not be allowed to undermine the stability that has made the Kurdistan Region a refuge for communities affected by conflict elsewhere in Iraq and the wider region.
