ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief Mazloum Abdi said that a significant process of military, security, and administrative integration is underway in Western Kurdistan (northeastern Syria), including planned administrative changes.

Speaking on Thursday, during celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Qamishlo, Abdi said the city’s diverse communities have a history in the region stretching back a thousand years.

He accused Syria’s previous government of pursuing demographic changes, restricting Kurdish identity and creating tensions among the country’s ethnic communities.

“In a new Syria, children should be educated in their mother tongues, and the identities of all ethnic groups must be protected,” Abdi said.

He said an important process involving military, security and administrative integration is currently underway, adding that further administrative changes would be implemented in the next phase.

Abdi also called for collective efforts to preserve the institutions established through years of conflict and sacrifice.

“All military and administrative institutions are the result of resistance and the blood of martyrs,” he said, urging all sides to support these institutions and ensure that the sacrifices made were not in vain.

On the political front, the SDF commander called for intensified efforts to secure constitutional guarantees for Kurdish rights in Syria.

“I call on everyone to work together to make our political efforts more serious and stronger, so that the rights of the Kurdish people are formally enshrined and protected in the Syrian Constitution,” Abdi said.

He also called on the governor and administrative officials of Hasakah province to improve public services in Qamishlo and across the province, urging government institutions to better meet citizens’ needs.

Abdi said Qamishlo should be developed into a cultural and political center for all of Syria.
