Iraq’s Top Judge, Iranian Parliament Speaker Discuss Legal Coordination
According to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Zaidan and Ghalibaf discussed the exchange of expertise and coordination on legal matters of common concern to Iraq and Iran.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council President, Judge Faiq Zaidan, met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in Baghdad on Tuesday to discuss issues of mutual interest, including legal cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Zaidan and Ghalibaf discussed the exchange of expertise and coordination on legal matters of common concern to Iraq and Iran.
The meeting came during Ghalibaf’s three-day visit to Baghdad, which began on August 19 as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss regional developments.
Ghalibaf’s visit took place amid heightened regional tensions, including disputes over the status of Iraq’s Iran-aligned armed groups and the impact of the conflict on regional security and trade.
During his visit, Ghalibaf called for greater regional coordination through an integrated defense and political framework that excludes foreign interference, particularly by the United States. He also said Iran does not interfere in Iraq’s internal affairs while describing Tehran as a security partner for Baghdad.
The two countries have maintained close political, economic and security ties, while Baghdad has sought to balance its relations with Tehran and Washington amid escalating regional tensions.
