Four Killed, More Than 50 Wounded in US Strike on Wedding in Southern Iran

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – At least four people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 others were wounded in a US strike that hit a residential home where a wedding celebration was taking place in southern Iran, the Iranian Red Crescent said on Tuesday.
The Red Crescent said the attack occurred in the city of Kuhestak in Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, after shrapnel from a US missile struck the home.
“More than 50 people were injured and four people, including a young child, were martyred,” the organization said in a post on X.
Iranian government media also shared video footage showing extensive debris and damage at what it identified as the wedding site in Sirik following the strike, with people heard screaming in the background.
Earlier, Hormozgan Deputy Governor Ahmad Nafisi told Iranian state television that two people had initially been reported killed and several others wounded.
Sirik County is located along the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
The United States said its forces were conducting strikes against targets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), citing what it described as “recent attempted attacks” against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US service members deployed in the region.
It was not immediately clear what the United States had targeted in Sirik County.
Iranian media reported explosions in several cities along and east of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, as well as at an airport in Kerman Province in southern Iran.
The latest strikes come amid an ongoing US-Iran war that began on February 28, when US and Israeli forces launched strikes against Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.
Iran responded with attacks against US and Israeli targets across the region.
The initial intensive bombardment lasted nearly 40 days, but sporadic attacks, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, have continued, further dimming prospects for a final peace agreement.
