ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Iraqi security and Kurdish Peshmerga forces on Saturday carried out an operation against ISIS in the vicinity of the Kurdistan Region's Garmiyan.

"Another successful operation by #peshmerga at the 1st sector vicinity Garmaser, 2 clear search the security gap between peshmerga & #ISF in the villages Dakai Sarcham & Kani Masi, which was being Used by #ISIS to carry out terrorist acts & take away loots & money from villagers," the Ministry of Peshmerga (MOP) tweeted on its official account.

The official account of the US-led coalition also tweeted about the operation, describing it as "another example of coordination, commitment, & cooperation between our #ISF/#Peshmerga partners as it is vital to ensuring Daesh (ISIS) lasting defeat & paving the way for stability & prosperity for all Iraqis."

"We remain firm in our resolve to #AdviseAssistEnable them. #StrongerTogether."

Earlier, the US-led coalition against ISIS said that the Kurdish Security Forces (KSF) conducted 1,650 independent operations against ISIS between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30, 2021.

The Pentagon Inspector General's quarterly report for Oct. 1, 2021 – Dec. 31 on Operation Inherent Resolve, the official name of the US-led military campaign against ISIS, noted that these operations by Peshmerga forces "included presence patrols, clearance patrols, observation posts, temporary checkpoints, and reconnaissance missions."

Almost five years after it was declared territorially defeated in Iraq, ISIS still launches hit-and-run attacks against security forces and civilians, mainly in the northern and eastern parts of the country, particularly in the disputed territories between Erbil and Baghdad.

The Iraqi and Kurdistan Region forces recently increased their coordination to combat these ISIS remnants.

In early February, Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army launched a joint operation in the disputed province of Kirkuk to secure areas where ISIS still has hideouts, according to security officials.
