Erdogan to visit Iraq after Turkish local elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan24 correspondent in Ankara reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Iraq after the Turkish local elections on March 31.

Erdogan’s remarks came after his speech at the Justice and Development Party (AKP) headquarters in Istanbul.

The Kurdistan24 reporter said that during his visit to Iraq, the Turkish president will visit the Kurdistan Region, and the agenda of the meeting with Iraqi and Kurdistan Region officials will include the resumption of oil exports through the Turkish port, as well as security, water, and diplomatic relations between Baghdad and Erbil.

The reporter also stated that the Turkish media reacted to yesterday's condolence letter of the Turkish President to Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on the death of his sister Zakia Mustafa Barzani.

According to the Turkish Supreme Election Council, 36 political parties are eligible to participate in Turkish local elections.

On March 21, 2023, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani visited Turkey and met with the Turkish President in Ankara, where they discussed the water crisis.

Turkey and Iraq enjoy lucrative economic ties. It was reported that in the year 2022, the two countries traded $15 billion in goods, an overwhelming part of which was transported through the Ibrahim Khalil (Habur) border near the Zakho independent administration of the Kurdistan Region.
