ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kataib Hezbollah, an Iraqi militia group, declared its intention to resume attacks against US forces in Iraq, citing dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in negotiations for the withdrawal of US troops.

In a statement released on its Telegram platform, Kataib Hezbollah expressed disappointment with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani's failure to secure a timetable for the withdrawal of US forces during his recent visit to Washington.

The group asserted that despite diplomatic efforts, it had become evident that foreign forces had no intention of leaving Iraq, prompting the decision to resume military operations against US forces.

"After the al-Sudani visit to Washington, there is likely to be no serious results from the withdrawal of these forces," the statement read. "The Islamic Resistance has decided to return to its military attacks on US forces."

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions in the region following recent missile attacks on an international coalition base in Syria, for which Iraqi security forces are conducting search operations to apprehend the perpetrators.

Previously, on December 30, 2023, Kataib Hezbollah had announced a temporary suspension of military operations against US forces in Iraq and Syria to avoid embarrassing the Iraqi government. However, the group's Secretary General, Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi, emphasized the organization's commitment to defending itself against any hostile actions from the US.

While Kataib Hezbollah pledges to resume military operations against US forces, it also reaffirms its solidarity with the people of Gaza, promising to support them through alternative means.

The resumption of attacks by Kataib Hezbollah underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Iraq and the broader implications for regional stability amidst heightened geopolitical tensions.
